Our Work

The Atlas Initiative has undertaken a series of initiatives, policies, partnerships, and activities to bring the relevant organizations and institutions into closer alignment to lift resilient infrastructure as the new ideal for planning, procurement, and construction. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development has done an outstanding job of showing what their 38 countries are doing to advance resilient infrastructure.

The need for hard infrastructure is rising as a top priority for every country, but so is the demand for natural infrastructure, our forests and coastlines, our rivers and lakes, our nature-based solutions that protect free ecological goods and biodiversity. So too, infrastructure has expanded its reach into what is called soft infrastructure, just as soft power and soft energy path have become commonplace. Many societies are defining it more broadly to include aspects of education and health that were somewhat outside the target zone in the past.

Designing Resilient Giga AI Factories for America’s Future

Building future-ready, climate-resilient AI capacity requires getting design decisions right from day one. On August 19, 2025, the Atlas Initiative for Critical Infrastructure (AtlasInfra.org), the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) (sustainableinfrastructure.org), developer of the Envision® sustainable infrastructure rating system, the Climate Risk Institute (CRI) (climateriskinstitute.ca), Alliance partner for the PIEVC Protocol for climate risk assessment, and Sustain360°™ (sustain360.ai), an AI-enabled Climate Intelligence platform, announced a strategic collaboration to apply proven mega-scale standards into the earliest design stages of Giga-scale AI data centers. These tools help ensure projects conform to certification schemes – FastInfra andBlueDotNetwork. With global demand for artificial intelligence ...
Digital Advances and AI Demand More Attention to Cyber Security for Infrastructure

Digital Advances and AI Demand More Attention to Cyber Security for Infrastructure

Atlas International VP of Innovation writes an article calling for more attention to cyber security for civil infrastructure. He contends that we are not prepared. We are not aware of how unprepared we are. We are not aware of the cost to prepare. We are not aware of how damaging our unpreparedness could be. Cyber security is simply another risk management issue. When designing and building infrastructure, we are familiar with risk management trade-offs applied to materials selection, earthquake design, hurricane design, monitoring for infrastructure decay, and so forth. But infrastructure has new risks associated with the digital age. We ...
Atlas Brings Engineering into the AI Movement

Atlas Brings Engineering into the AI Movement

The Atlas Initiative strengthens the role of engineers in providing the critical infrastructure to grow these world-changing technologies. U.S. AI leadership is ensured by building AI-associated critical infrastructure. HRCA sees the need to accelerate the buildout of these technologies and their critical infrastructure and apply them to the health field. AI and Q Companies Show Promise in Healthcare

Given recent breakthroughs, the biggest AI and Q companies have dedicated themselves to making health concerns their top priority. This combination of Nobel Prize winning talent, revolutionary breakthroughs, and new financial firepower provides hope that real progress is highly probable. While no one knows exactly when these breakthroughs and cures will be discovered and made available on a wide basis, the trajectory of progress is impressive. Pictured: National Cancer Institute Researchers. Example of real life progress described by Jamie Metzl, biotech expert, “The convergence of AI and genomics is rewriting the rules of medicine. We’re moving beyond symptom management to ...
Atlas Promotes Use of AI and Q for Healthcare Breakthroughs

Atlas Promotes Use of AI and Q for Healthcare Breakthroughs

AI is already transforming medicine by accelerating drug discovery, personalizing treatments, and improving diagnostics. There are over 3 million peer-reviewed articles on medicine published each year. Over the next five to ten years, AI and Q will get even better at sifting through massive datasets covering genomics, patient records, and clinical trial results to pinpoint novel drug targets faster than ever. It will optimize how clinical trials are designed, cut down on the time it takes to get a cure from the lab to the patient, and predict how a disease progresses and tailor an intervention before symptoms even kick ...

Atlas Encourages Public/Private Partnerships

Potential partnerships exist between governments, nonprofits, and the private sector and these partnerships may hold the opportunity to add considerable resources to the collaborative endeavor. The HCRA will be active in educating government officials about the need to undertake health research that looks towards innovations that emphasize AI and Q. Atlas Advocates for AI Infrastructure Policy and Regulation

The Atlas Initiative’s participation in HCRA helps shift attention to policies, programs, and medicine that increasingly leverage AI and Q research for breakthroughs in diagnosis, treatments, prevention, and cures for chronic diseases. National leadership should be encouraged to develop an overarching strategic approach to transform our policy agenda to include a more significant part of our applied research budgets to target AI and Q- assisted sector specific objectives to more quickly achieve medical breakthroughs and cures for chronic diseases. Leadership at the national level is paramount. It is the responsibility of leadership to explain why a policy should be adopted ...
